| Abstract | Elder abuse is a pervasive global issue, yet it is under-recognized and under-reported. This underscores the urgent need for enhanced training and resources within social work education. The presentation outlines a targeted social work trauma intervention to inform and enrich gerontology curricula. Grounded in intervention research and supported by qualitative methodology, the intervention is based on an extensive literature review and engagement with community members, social workers and victims of elder abuse. Thematic analysis of collected data identified key elements, emphasising cultural competency in addressing elder abuse. Social work interventions should focus on the person in their life space. |
