Abstract It must be acknowledged that while globalization and neoliberalism plays a pivotal role in bringing development internationally, grave concerns remain locally in South Africa that many Social workers in the Child Welfare organisations contextually interact within deprived under resourced systems which has implications for managing such communities. This paper presents the policies practices and and structures that include deliberations on the implementations of political socio economic and global issues that directly impact the day to day functioning of social workers in executing their duties. The study adopts a qualitative approach. The findings revealed that despite social workers commitment to a transformative agenda to improve the lived realities of the poor and vulnerable, various contextual and national challenges come to exist and persist within the neoliberal work environment
