ABSTRACT
This research article examines the investigation of child sexual abuse cases in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It highlights the challenges faced by different role players and discusses recommendations based on international literature. The findings suggest that a conceptual framework combining theories can enhance investigation efficiency. However, monitoring and evaluation of the proposed model are necessary for improvement. Despite progress in policy formulation, implementation remains a significant issue. The study emphasises the need for more effective responses to address the escalating problem of child abuse in South Africa.

ABSTRACT
The study was aimed to develop an innovative strategy to address the investigation of child sexual abuse cases in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The process of investigating child sexual abuse cases is affected by numerous challenges; therefore, it was the research study to determine the root causes that delays the investigation processes of these cases. Furthermore, to look at the contestations among the role players, what roles and functions do each role player performs during the investigation process of child sexual abuse cases. This research thesis discusses the shortages of physical and human resources and the communication mediums used by role players during the investigative process. The qualitative research approach was used and more specifically a case study design. The data was gathered by means of semi-structured interviews and the focus group discussions. Data was thematically analysed. The significant research findings indicated that role players spent more time on the investigations of child sexual abuse cases, and various interviews were conducted in different office environments, resulting in delays with finalising the cases. Therefore, there was a requirement to develop an innovative strategy to address these delays during the investigations of child sexual abuse cases. The study concludes with the recommendations that a joint child sexual abuse investigation model must be developed. Thus, the research recommends that a pilot study be conducted to implement the proposed model.
